October 30th: Postal Service Attendant Day

The date marks the publication in the Official Gazette of the Union, on October 30, 1932, of Decree-Law 4,042, which regulates the profession of traders, today better known as commercial attendants. In these almost 90 years of regulated profession, attendants play a significant role in society, directly reflecting the image of Correios.
In 2020, with the COVID-19 pandemic, thePhone Number Listimportance of these professionals became even more evident. Even with the closure of most businesses during the most critical period of isolation, the postal service was considered essential and postal workers were on the list of professionals who supported society at this critical time.
At the Harmonia agency, in Rio Grande do Sul, attendant Caroline Lottermann remembers that many small businesses were only able to survive because the post offices remained open. “There were not a few companies, there were many here in our region. We help both those who have to sell, to guarantee their family’s livelihood, and those who need to buy to guarantee their isolation.”

The attendants are also fundamental in confirming the role of the state-owned company as the main partner of Brazilian e-commerce. Cristiane Silva, from the Bom Jardim agency, in the interior of the state of Rio de Janeiro, tells how the support of Correios, the only logistics operator present throughout the country, has been essential for deliveries to virtual stores.
For Elinésia Queiroz, from the Flores agency, in Pernambuco, the feeling of being part of the daily lives of so many Brazilians is one of pride. “Our work brings solutions to people’s lives. Therefore, I feel essential to the country and to society.”
